I love this, it has a painterly feeling and almost looks more like a charcoal drawing than a photograph.

one of the best trees shots i have seen.abstract, a soul landscape, 'away from everyday life', yet strong and 'real'.

It also totally looks like an etching, but it's even cooler that it's not.

Because it's so stylized. It could be an etching.

it not stylized at all, i shoot long expo on the iso 800, so the grain is comes in.
the only thing i add is the bit of yellow tone, instead the b&w

I understand this, but it truly is possible to make such picture :)

With a camera, you play with a factor "aperture/time" for getting the right exposure.
Basicaly, lens aperture will bring you depth of field control and shutter speed will give you the possibility to freeze a movement, with a short shutter speed, or to unfreeze a movement (it's a choice) with a longer shutter speed (here 15sec). The movement could be the one of the subject but it can also be a movement the photographer will have, just as here. By moving the camera the highlights of the subject get painted on the darker parts creating this kind of surreal effect, it is called light painting :)

i feel this picture is portraying someone comeing out of a tough spot or even depression and going to hope hence the light. good job!

That dark feeling comes to mynd, like someone could be out there watching you and something could happen, but the light gives you hope. :) I like a lot.
